			<P>Firstly, the office workout begins as soon as you step out of your front door. If you catch the bus then get it from a bus stop that&rsquo;s situated a few stops from your normal one and then get off a stop early. This short walk alone will burn a few hundred calories&#8230;surely worth an extra 20-30 minutes of your day? If you live 1 or 2 miles from your workplace then try and find a safe route to walk to work. Not only will you be a lot fitter, you will lose weight and you will get to breathe in a lot of fresh air before you&rsquo;re stuck in the office for the rest of the day. If your workplace is over a couple of miles away then consider investing in a bicycle- even a beginner can do 3 miles in 20 minutes!</P> <P>Once you are in the office and ready for a workout, make sure you stretch before doing so. You will need a water bottle full of water or a small dumbell (you can keep these in your office drawer so you don&rsquo;t have to keep lagging them to work). During your lunchbreak or coffee break you can do chair squats, leg squats, bicep curls, side bends, front raise to tricep presses and ab twists. You could even go running around the block/to the local park on your lunchbreak- just pack some trainers and clothes you don&rsquo;t mind getting sweaty and away you go! </P></p>

<p>Trying to lead a healthier lifestyle isn&rsquo;t without its pitfalls. As with any new endeavour, one is always going to come up against <a href="http://www.babyteeth.co.uk/">teething</a> problems. For me, it was getting enough exercise. And eating healthier food. And, in fairness, getting more fresh air as well.</p>
<p>What I&rsquo;m saying here is that there simply is no easy solution. You have to work at these things pretty hard in order to make them happen; but it&rsquo;s all doable. What&rsquo;s worked for me is finding the healthier things <em>that I like </em>- so that I do them not because I feel that they&rsquo;ll make me healthier, although I definitely feel that, but because I take pure pleasure in the doing of them.</p>
<p>One of the things I love the most is hill-walking. As a form of exercise it&rsquo;s not that great in fairness, since essentially you&rsquo;re just meandering around. But you can still burn off a lot of energy after the fourth mile or so, and of course as far as fresh air goes it&rsquo;s absolutely fantastic. And ultimately, walking&rsquo;s not quite about exercise as such. It&rsquo;s really about the sense of relaxation and mental stability that comes with feeling yourself to be a part of Nature. I find my work and other troubles drop away when I&rsquo;m walking alongside a cliff face that&rsquo;s millions of years old, that thousands of generations of people have walked before.</p>
<p>I&rsquo;m still drinking a lot of coffee though. In fairness that&rsquo;s a habit I&rsquo;ve not kicked yet. But one day &#8211; soon &#8211; one day!</p>

So much so that you barely notice it until after it sets in.This state of being usually becomes apparent only when some incident provokes you to look at your life objectively. In most cases that old hoodwinker, complacency, ensures that you never even realise that the spark has been lost and the switch made. Even in my wildest dreams I never thought that I too would fall prey to such a syndrome. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify">My life was always full with sports, extracurricular activities and other stuff that pretty much kept me charged and on the go. Having like-minded friends who pushed themselves helped in the brief periods that I needed a nudge. Inwardly, I often scoffed at lesser beings who felt and acted listless, who needed a little help to feel good. So much so that junk food took over healthy eating. Lack of time and an all-consuming job ensured that exercise was confined to getting in and out of the car. Physical activities become a cherished memory. Ideal ingredients for a sense of worthlessness set in. In no time, a negative attitude had taken over my life. I would have been none the wiser to this gradual metamorphosis until I met up with some old friends and their apparent shock at seeing me jolted to take a detached look at myself. What I saw shocked and even scared me. It was an eye-opener. A medical check-up confirmed the catastrophe that was waiting to explode in my body. The only way out was to follow a strict lifestyle change that included a change in diet, sleep pattern and most important exercise. The results are slowly beginning to show and I can&rsquo;t wait to get back to my old self where I found joy in everything I did. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&rsquo;s a cliche, but the start of the New Year can put a spring in your step. People use the fresh start to make big decisions they&rsquo;d been putting off. If only for a month or two, gym memberships rise, healthy eating reigns supreme and the wine remains on the shelf. People decide to move or get married. It&rsquo;s a life changing time. </p>
<p>Spring cleaning and detox-ing aside, now is a great time to start re-assessing problem areas in your life. Don&rsquo;t rush at it: January may be the month of new beginnings but it also contains the most depressing day of the year! Now is not the time to force change, but to start it (hence why those gym memberships lie dormant from February onwards!) </p>

<p>Let&rsquo;s start gently.</p>
<p>Set aside an afternoon to start having a good long dispassionate look at your life.  I find spring cleaning helps de-clutter my head as much as my house, but use whatever method works for you. Some people like to walk or run whilst thinking (which of couse has extra benefits, lifting the mood and working the body) others might prefer to think over a cup of tea.  If there are too many distractions at home, a tea in a quiet cafe might work.  Often we are too caught up in the whirlwind of modern life to take some time just to sit and think, and this only adds to our stress. </p>
<p>Make lists or notes if that will help, and start to think about each area of your life &#8211; home, relationships, work &#8211; in turn.  Try to focus on each one individually.    </p>
<p>Then start looking at any areas of stress.  Are you always rushing, always behind time?  Have a proper think about why that it.  Perhaps you need to start getting up 5 or 10 minutes earlier to stop the feeling that your day is running away with you.  Are you always overwhelmed and overburdened?  Perhaps you need to stop saying yes to every request (a very hard habit to crack) or you might need to find someone who you can ask to provide support and help.  Would just setting twenty minutes aside once a week to call a friend and talk things through reduce your stress levels?  This could be something of equal benefit for them.</p>
<p>Think about what your biggest cause of stress is.  It&rsquo;s unlikely to be something you can just get rid of straight away, but it could well be something you can alleviate.  If it&rsquo;s your job, for example, just making the decision to start looking at the job pages every week is a start.</p>

<p> 5) Buy some cool and funky wellies. That&rsquo;ll make gardening fun! Gardening isn&rsquo;t everyone&rsquo;s cup of tea, but it gets loads better when you&rsquo;re wearing your amazing pink wellies. There are loads of types available, and some even have heels!</p>
<p> 6) Cleaning the toilet is no fun, so why not make it much funner by learning a language at the same time? There are lots of kits that allow you to learn a language while doing anything else, so take advantage of your cleaning time and soon you&rsquo;ll be mastering a European language of your choice!</p>
