New Year, New You: Realising Your Potential

It’s a cliche, but the start of the New Year can put a spring in your step. People use the fresh start to make big decisions they’d been putting off. If only for a month or two, gym memberships rise, healthy eating reigns supreme and the wine remains on the shelf. People decide to move or get married. It’s a life changing time.

Spring cleaning and detox-ing aside, now is a great time to start re-assessing problem areas in your life. Don’t rush at it: January may be the month of new beginnings but it also contains the most depressing day of the year! Now is not the time to force change, but to start it (hence why those gym memberships lie dormant from February onwards!)

Sorting things out in the house doesn’t HAVE to be stressful!

I noticed the other day, while trying to organize my preowned hermes bags collection – and what a collection it is! – that certain things really stress me out. It’s weird…you’d think that the fun things like organising luxury bags would be just that, fun. But actually, I often find that that is not the case. In fact, even weirder still, I find that doing the house-work puts a smile on my face. And as for washing up the dishes, well, I know it’s wrong, but there is actually something very satisfying about making sure they are all perfectly clean and ready to be dried up.

Here, then, are my top tips for de-cluttering the house – and other things – with a smile on your face:

1) whatever you do, do listen to music: music is amazing. It can make even the dullest of jobs into a fun and exhilarating activity that you actually look forward to. OK, so emptying the bins might not be the job you look forward to, but with Lady Gaga blasting away, do you really care?

a small break every so often is allowed, you know! Have a five minute break where you just completely put your feet up and relax
